| | | | Review Title: The Truth About Gatorwood | | | | | | Reviewer: Anonymous | | | | Review Date: 5/28/03 | | | | | | | Rate This Apartment | | | | | | | Gatorwood Apartments, though affordable and close to campus, has a management team that is at best unknowledgeable and at worst both biased and unhelpful.I had to get Student Legal Services at the University of Florida to help me out with my roommate situtation because the manager, Shirley Pardon, moved my roommate into another apartment when I was away for the weekend. When asked about the whereabouts of my roommate, she acted as though she didnt know what was going on and my roommate had skipped out on the rent. She then told me I would be fully responsible for the money, even thought she had moved her into a one bedroom. At this time, the issue is still not resolved and I have been living alone in the apartment for almost 6 months.Additionally, Mrs. Pardon has still does not acknowledge that is it both unethical and immoral to try to aquire more than double the rent from tenantswho are legially signed to one joint lease.Though I would like to believe my situation was an isolated incident, it was brought my attention that there are, at this time, several such cases against Gatorwood.PLESE BEWARE!If moving into Gatorwood here are some suggestions: 1) Keep all your receipts from your rent payments!!!My situation resulted from the office not keeping an accurate ledger for my apartment (They didnt record a rent payment for over $550 dollars!!) 2) Understand excatly what you are getting! The rent is cheap because the security is poor (several young women were murderded there about 10 years ago and my car was broken into) and the only person who can tell you anything about your apartment is Mrs. Pardon and when she is out of the office...too bad... 3) They are biased...My friends who were previous tenants were told they had an apartment, but then were told approx. 3 weeks before their lease was up that they apartment was "accidentially" re-rented..go figure..Understand, though Gatorwood is not a bad place to live as far as the apartments and rent are concerned, understand that the management can be a problem. | | | | |
