Apartment Review for Exchange At Gainesville - Gainesville, FL

I moved out of my 2-year living at the Exchange on August 7, 2004. They just sent me a moving out damage notice and what they charged me was $516 dollars!!!!!!! Ok, I had to pay $250 dollars when I signed the lease for REDECORATION FEE!!! and $ 220 for non-refundable administrative fee....(this is not including the application fee of $55) already, they rip you off when you sign the lease with them. I have yet to contact my old roommate, and if they sent this kind of bill to her too the total would be over $ 1,000 for the two of us!!! Now, I'm a very clean person and so was my roommate. Our apartment was in a really good condition and we thoroughly cleaned it when we moved out. Listen to this, the management refused to do a walk-out inspection with me and told me that if I even at least attempt to clean the apartment I should not be charged!!!!! $157.50 was charged for re-painting the walls of the living room, kitchen, and bedroom. However, we did not hang ANYTHING up and the walls did not have marks or anything. And now this is the most rediculous charge among all....$205 dollars for repair of coffee table and chairs!!!! They were in great shape and working condition and there is nothing to be repaired!!! $110 for replacing the living room carpet !?!? Why replace? it's only 2 years old and no stains!!! also $40 for cleaning my bedroom carpet. Okay, I admit I'm a clean-freak and so I had the whole carpet in my bedroom protected by area carpets. I'm just really really upset about all this. I always paid my rent on time and never had any major problem with them but this is just ridiculous. I hope anyone thinking about moving there will be more cautious and if you have any other choice, don't move there!!!
